life wisdom

June 30, 2009

breathe in then out – dance  - stretch – listen in on shells – put living things back – cultivate quiet – boogie – practice – simplicity – sugar yourself with sand – float – carry a bucket – ride rusty bikes, go with the wind – walk tender – hug – respect – leave no wake – tune up your senses – build castles and leave them for the moon to find – run with waves – discover treasure – remember yourself – keep off the rocks – ebb and flow – laugh like a gull – the slower you go the more you see – you can’t move forward until you stick your head out – everybody is soft inside – you leave your mark wherever you go – life is full of moments – today’s forecast: clumsy with moments of grace – sometimes there is no need for words –  let hope rise – shine! – the opposite of life is fear – fear can eat you up – lost is just another word for exploring – lean toward warmth – life is full of gifts….be thankful!

Just a reminder that the little things in life are the big things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Jules

Tuesday Morning… next day forward

June 30, 2009

Hi My Laurie Lovers!

I have made the trek back to Minnesota to take care of a few things. I’ll be back! (in my best Arnold voice). They tried to take her breathing tube out yesterday but still too much swelling in her neck. “Today is the day” is the quote on her white board. It will live there. Today they may try again using some different methods. WE are hopeful that Today is the day! Her swelling is down and she looks much better. Today is the day and the next day forward. I tell her that as she drifts off to sleep holding her hand. I kiss her forehead and say love you love you love you. She gives a little squeeze. We are getting some of her favorite music together so she can listen to familiar sounds instead of all the beeps and alarms.

In the mean time i have found an incredible book and website. I think it is important for those of us close to her to learn as much as possible about spinal cord injuries and the journey we are now taking.

Thank you all for the prayers and positive thoughts!  More later.

Sunday

June 28, 2009

First, thank you to everyone who showed up last night at Papa’s. Laurie still has the breathing tube but is breathing on her own. They are giving her meds to fight any potential infection. She has been able to write a few words … it is hard to make out … she wants us to “CATCH THE BAD GUYS” She knows she is in IA CITY. She gets frustrated with us when we don’t understand. We just tell her we are frustrated too. She points her finger a lot. I think she gets that from Mom. Gotta love her determination. If I continue to ramble on you will all know for sure we are sistors.

WE LOVE YOU LAURIE LYNN LOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jules

Breathing tube is still in. She is breathing on her own. She has a feeding tube now. She recognizes us. She can blink and shake her head yes and no. She would love to see people however she needs to stay calm. Please be patient and we will let you all know soon when she can handle more visitors. You may send cards to the house the address is the right hand corner of the website. Your love and prayers are greatly appreciated. More soon.   Jules (sister)

Latest update on my mom

June 25, 2009

Unfortunately when I got down there this evening I was unable to see her due to them shutting down the bay that she was in because another patient was in serious distress, but here is what I know of as of today… She came through surgery last night beautifully and the Doctor assured us it went well and that he accomplished what he went in to do which was to stablize her back not repair the spinal cord. Laurie’s surgery went well

June 25, 2009

Hi everyone-

Just a quick update on Laurieloo; her daughter Heather or sister Jules will be posting more.  She came out of the 6-7 hour surgery last night.  Doctors said she did well.  Their main goal was to stabilize the spinal cord and they accomplished that.  They were leaving her breathing tube in last night, but planned on removing it this afternoon and the next goal was to get her to sit up on her own.  As far as the future, it appears to still be unknown at this time.

Keep positive! The power of the mind can overcome ANYTHING!!!

PLEASE continue to keep her in your prayers.  :-)

Heather/Jules- Any more updates, please post them!!

Love to to all  ~~~  Karen
